The Panikhida for Pope John Paul II, With Patriarchs and Representatives of each Eastern-Catholic churches.
Beautiful symbol of the Universal Church.
Today the Holy Orthodox Church and Roman Catholic Church piously remembers the sufferings of the Holy Glorious and All-Praised Apostles Peter and Paul.
“First in prominence among the Apostles, and teachers to the Universe, intercede to the Master of all for peace in the world and for our souls great mercy.”
Oh Peter and Paul, higher in rank than any other Apostle, Teachers of the World, intercede with the Master of all that He may give peace to the world and great mercy to us all.
Palm Sunday (Last year) at the Vatican, With Pope Benedict XVI.
The Priest sprinkles the palm ashes with holy water, then incenses them.
He puts ashes on his head, then on the heads of those present because the Head is the seat of pride. As he does this he says:
Meménto, homo, quia pulvis es, et in púlverem revertéris
“Remember, man, that thou art dust, and unto dust thou shalt return”
